Mercedes-Benz

A generation ahead: The CLS-Class created a new vehicle category in 2003 by combining the elegance and expressiveness of a coup? with the comfort and functionality of a sedan. The CLS delighted the public, astounded the competition and created a new style icon: for years the CLS has endured as the only four-door coup? in its class, and since October 2004 it has been the car of choice for around 170,000 buyers worldwide. ‘Customers all over the world benefited from our bold move to launch a completely new vehicle concept onto the market’, explains a delighted Dr. Joachim Schmidt, member of the board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales & Marketing. ‘And with its exciting design, the new edition of the CLS also benefits from the fact that we are a whole generation ahead of the competition with our four-door Coup?.’

Celebrating its world premiere at the Paris motor show (October 2 ? 17, 2010), the 2012 CLS-Class builds on the pioneering role of its predecessor with a fresh new interpretation. ‘The new CLS points the way forward for the future perceptible design idiom of Mercedes-Benz’, explains Professor Gorden Wagener, head of design at Mercedes-Benz. ‘At the same time it takes its inspiration from the great tradition of stylish, refined sportiness which has always been a feature of Mercedes coup?s.’

Mazda Shinari Concept

The Mazda Shinari is a pure design concept model of a four-door, four-seater sports coupe which perfectly expresses the ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme in a graceful and carefree form.

The Japanese word Shinari describes the powerful yet supple appearance of great resilient force when objects of high tensile strength, such as steel or bamboo, are twisted or bent. It also refers to the appearance of a person or animal as it flexibly transforms its body to generate a fast movement. Within this movement, Mazda designers discovered the potential to realize ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’.

One glance at Mazda Shinari Concept stirs the emotions. Its form expresses the powerful movement of a lean body with highly developed muscles, supple but at the same time filled with tension. Mazda’s desire is to reach car lovers’ hearts and go beyond the notion of rational logic. This form purely embodies that desire.

Pinin Farina

This example is considered to be the oldest Pinin Farina-bodied car in existence, and is one of just 21 V16 chassis bodied by European coachbuilders. In 1993, this car was chosen as the Concours Poster Car for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The painting was performed by Nicola Wood, a member of the Automotive Fine Arts Society and a four-time recipient of the Athena Award of Excellence. The post of the V-16 Cadillac earned her the industry’s prestigious Peter Helck Award.
